To my own detriment...

To say that it is a pity that I haven't blogged in a while is a drastic understatement. I've had thousands upon thousands of tumultuously wonderful moments that embraces my blog 'theme' and yet due to my own lack of self discipline has been my Berlin Wall to writing. However, it is thanks to World Nomads for bursting through my stubborn self and forced the hand to write again.

A side-note: World Nomads is offering a travel writing scholarship to Singapore, Malaysia and Bali. What an absolute dream. The mere thought of it all sends the adventurous spirit coursing through my every vessel.

It is this reason that I am kicking myself that I haven't built up more of an online portfolio in order to seduce them with my words and be the successful candidate. If only I could send them my diary... Sigh.

Herewith, I will give my summarized versions of defining moments in my life and the pictures I have taken to reveal to any eye that peruses this blog, that I am a travel addict that injects any experience into words.

Here is the link to the scholarship: http://journals.worldnomads.com/scholarships/story/82158/Worldwide/Travel-Writing-Scholarship-2012-Southeast-Asia

Jax Panik Get Up (If you're hot) - Feat. HC (OFFICIAL)

Sorry I have been so quiet. My gorgeous boyfriend came to visit for 10 days. ( He lives in a different town) so the blog took second place on the preference list. My boyfriend is in that band that featured in earlier posts, Fire Through The Window and they played at a festival this weekend called Synergy. My camera has taken a walk about so I don't have any pictures unfortunately. This is another South African Band that played live for the first time and I fell in LOVE. This is Jax Panic featuring HC. Time to BOOGIE!

Freshlyground & ZA NEWS - Chicken to Change (OFFICIAL RELEASE)

This song is a protest song about the autocratic leader Robert Mugabe in our neighbouring Country, Zimbabwe which is ruins due to his corruptive ways. Freashlyground teamed up with a satirical cartoonist, Zapiro and his new branch off from his drawn cartoons to caricatures of political figures in puppet form. Feel the SWEET African rhythm. :)

Freshlyground - Fire Is Low (Official Music Video)

Freshlyground is the most well known South African band I think. They featured with Shakira for the FIFA Soccer World Cup in the Waka Waka anthem. This band embodies the South African sound that originated in the townships during Apartheid and the vibrant African beat. By far my FAVOURITE band!

Fire Through the Window*

Here is another song from one of the bands I mentioned earlier. This song is THE cutest song ever. It will make a home in your head for a while. Be warned!

The Homestead.

Alrighty then. My developing intention with this blog is to tell all about life as a teenager in the culturally diverse continent that is Africa.
Up till' now I have been to four African countries with the dreams to travel every square inch of this place, by foot, by car, by plane, by whatever will contribute to that dream being a reality.

Before launching myself into what will be the most exciting journey I could think of, I'd like to introduce to you my Country of South Africa. This is where Mandela and Apartheid arose from. This is where "Monster"star, Charlize Theron was born, this is what inspired the movie "Invictus" and this is where the world class engineering that saved those Chilean miners was designed.

There are many towns in this Country but I shall begin where my heart is and that is obviously my home.
Cape Town.
It is very much part of Africa but no... We do not have lions roaming around, I drive to school in a car and not on elephant back and we have food in abundance, we are not suffering from any kind of draught or poverty to the point where civil war is over breakfast. This is a reality in Africa, yes. But not in Cape Town.

The pictures below are four of my favorite places in Cape Town.

Table Mountain- The explanation is in the name. It is a very flat mountain in the middle of our city. God must have used a GREAT deal of sandpaper.

The sunset- That is the view from on my running route about 3km's from my house.

The forest- This was taken in Stellenbosch forest. An area rich with wine lands and moist exploring areas such as this forest. The makers of Twilight wished they knew about this place.

The Waterfront- This is the only active Waterfront and biggest harbour in South Africa. It was opened by Queen Victoria and her husband Prince Alfred.

I ask you to google Cape Town. Number one tourist destination in South Africa and this is where I am so blessed to live.

Welcome to Africa.

SOUTH AFRICAN MUSIC

South Africa holds more gems than just the beautiful tourist sites, the friendly people and the rich African culture. South Africa has music industry that has gone unnoticed for way, way too long. I hope that one day THE WORLD will hear the tunes of these talented few and South Africa is put on the map for more than a successful hosting of the 2010 FIFA World Cup or our historical past. Let's take home some of that INTERNATIONAL recognition.

So, I'm gracing your ears with the wonderful sounds of my three favourite SA bands.
Get those fingers scrolling and give em' a listen. :)
